Ox, While in the Coast Guard 20 years, I was a small arms instructor 14 years, I’ve been to 2 Smith&Wesdon academy. But haven’t been to a pistol range in a number of years. I figured it wouldn’t hurt to brush up on my skills. Can’t wait to get back into it . Be Safe
Ox, thank you for sharing “the grip.” I know most of my accuracy, suffers from poor grip alignment!! Hitting the range this week and looking forward to improved accuracy!
Good video. This is my first course of this type and am excited to try the suggestions. One question on grip, were is the best place for your support hand thumb?
Thanks for this, awesome. But, I have a question, I have big hands, and when I grip my HK VP9 as you instructed, I don’t have that gap. Does that mean that my grip is wrong? Also, my pistol has paddle mag releases, which kind of hurt when my knuckle is right under it. Any suggestions?
The bigger your hands, the easier it normally is to get the gap, but the gap is only a visual indication that you’re applying pressure forwards and backwards rather than in from the sides. It’s fine for your palm to touch the slabs, as long as the majority of your force is forwards and backwards.
On the paddle mag release, I know what you mean. I’ve got the same issue on my HK USP-c. Bandaids, superglue, or calluses are the only solutions I’ve found. This is also an issue for most people who shoot Glocks and it’s common to get a callus on your middle finger where it hits the trigger guard. In high volume classes, it’s common to see people with tape or bandaids on their fingers on day 2 or 3.

Great intro…simple…good detail
Thank you for that most helpful information. Now that I know what to do and how to hold any pistol, it is now time to practice.
